In order to marry in the Navajo tribe you have to marry someone in another tribe. The Navajo religion worshipped many gods of wind and water. There were gods for almost every natural occurrence. There were sacrifices and spiritual dances like many other tribes to worship these gods. The first way the two cultures are different from each other is religion. The main United States religion is Christianity. Christians normally pray to one god at certain time periods. The Navajo Nation has different ways they pray and different rituals.
The story explains their place in and relationship to the spiritual and physical worlds. They believe the spirits from the upper world help keep the peace between both worlds (Raley n.p.). The spirits of the underworld used to wreak havoc on the physical world through water streams (Raley n.p.). The Cherokees would call upon the spirits of the upper world to help restore peace between the worlds (Raley n.p.). From this point forward, the Cherokee people practice rituals and ceremonies to keep the earth in harmony and pray to the spirits from above to protect them (Raley n.p.).
The Navajo people have a had a long, tumultuous, history with the United States. For the longest time however, the Navajos’ relationship with the United States was not what defined the Navajo people. The Navajo lead a relatively peaceful life until they made contact with neighboring tribes, and the sudden appearance of strange foreigners near their lands. Before contact was made with outside peoples, the Navajo mostly functioned as a hunter-gatherer society. This nomadic lifestyle was the commonplace until the Navajo met the Pueblo people.
Ranging from the south Alleghenies mountain range all the way down to the south of Georgia and far west of Alabama, lived the Cherokee Indians. They were a powerful detached tribe of the Iroquoian family and were commonly called Tsaragi which translates into "cave people. " This tribe was very prominent in what is now called the U.S, but over time has been split up or run out of their land because of social or political encounters with the new settlers from Europe. Despite the dispersion or the split amongst this tribe, they still obtained their core religious beliefs, practices and ceremonies. Their detailed belief system, fundamental beliefs, significant meanings, and their connection to song and dance make up their religious system.
Native Americans have a really diverse culture and one report is not enough to talk about all of their cultures. They have fourteen tribes so it is obvious that they will have a lot of different cultures and traditions between all fourteen tribes. It is impossible to have fourteen tribes with different people and expect them to all believe in the same things so some of them have different beliefs and different traditions. They worshipped a lot of gods and even some of the gods had dolls made for them. Some tribes worshipped the sun or fire or some serpents.
