Native American Astronomy: Native American cultures have easily been around for hundreds of years. Before all the inventions that we have today, many people looked to the stars to find direction. Many cultures have observed and recorded the sky, including Native Americans. The astronomy practiced by Native American’s have changed and diversified overtime with the splitting up of different traditions and legends. People from Asia crossed into North America and they were the first on the new land and were known as Native Americans. Overtime, they broke into numerous different tribes. There were many tribes, but just to name a few, there are the Skidi Band of Pawnee Indians based off in the North West, Chumash Indians of the California Coast and the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico. The Pawnee Indians were known to have a complex religion, their attempts to stay connected to the sky and astronomy of it went on as far as building their villages in position with what they said was the most important stars in the sky. They had four directions that were very important to them, they were northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast to help guide them to build their homes and a few other things as well.
