Profile of the Leader: The interviewed leader holds a CEO position of a prominent biomedical equipment company in Beirut. He previously worked in a biomedical equipment company in the United States whereby he gained a deep experience of 8 years. He is a true pioneer in the field of biomedical equipments where his company ranks in the top 5 of biomedical equipments companies in Lebanon. His primary goal is to deliver high quality biomedical equipments to the market in order to satisfy his customers ( Hospitals, patients, and employees).

The ability to handle those challenges defines the effectiveness of the leader. In this interview, the main challenge pinpointed is the ability to provide high quality biomedical equipments while staying competitive in a market that lacks appropriate surveillance. In other words, maintaining the balance between high quality of the equipment that directly affects patients and profitability of the company. The leader stated that ethical values related to patients’ right to health are embedded in the organization’s culture. “We take responsibility of aligning ourselves with our humane side before our business side because if we want to only think of only maximizing profit the people who are losing are in need of the services” the CEO stated. It’s vital in this industry that leaders have a sense of accountability since any manipulation in the precision of the biomedical equipment has a direct effect on patients’ health outcomes and may threaten their diagnosis and thus their health outcomes. In addition, it’s really challenging to deliver the best in healthcare in the Lebanese context due to issues related to credibility and trust. For instance, the stereotype of the horrible female boss persists because higher expectations are set for women in power, that it's almost impossible for any male to meet them. Research shows that both women and men tend to associate men with leadership position whereas women to being followers due to the strongly embedded gender stereotypes. In fact, when women are promoted to senior positions in leadership, the collective norms are disrupted. However, the interviewed leader believes that women indeed are born leaders as they are first school of their children. Although he associated women with being leaders as mothers, he also acknowledges the potential of women to prosper as leaders when given opportunities to invest their abilities and skills that can in many ways make them excel in leadership positions as males and sometimes even better. This leader believes that women can become leaders if they are to be given equal opportunities as men. He criticizes the Arab countries for still fostering gender stereotypes in the workplace due to their conservative thinking and believes we are still lagging behind the Western countries were women have gained high leadership position and even succeeded in becoming presidents in some countries.
