• Jack is a dynamic and rounded character in the story with the ability to display many different traits such as being very open and accepting others into his adventures as he allowed the animals to join him on his journey. He opened his heart to each of the different animals simply because they asked to join him. He is a responsible young man who believes he has an obligation to leave home and make his own way in the world by making his own fortune. The beginning of the story shows jack as a young man who has realized he needs to go out to seek his fortune or make his own way in the world.” Once on a time there was a boy named Jack, and one morning he started to go and seek his fortune.” Jack is content with himself and seems to be happy with his decision. He is singing as he goes on his way. As hew meet and accept each animal he goes on his way singing “jiggelty-jolt, jiggelty-jolt.” Jack is also a smart young man who knows how to make the best of a challenging situation. He was able to defeat the robbers twice without putting himself or the animals into any danger. First he was able to frighten the robbers out of the house, “Then Jack went back and told them to wait till he gave the word, and then to make all the noise they could. So when they were all ready Jack gave the word, and the cat mewed, and the dog barked, and the goat bleated, and the bull bellowed, and the rooster crowed, and all together they made such a dreadful noise that it frightened the robbers all away”, and secondly he was able to defeat them when they returned to get their money and each of the animal made such noise they again scared the robber
