“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it’s stupid.” Einstein's words are crucial to understanding how important it is to use your intelligence in the proper way. Einstein realized that everyone has more than one kind of intelligence, and if we don’t use them in a positive way we would be better off if we didn’t have them at all. Your intelligences are a gift and if they aren’t used properly, they may be harming others. In “Flowers for Algernon,” before and after his operation, Charlie Gordon shows us that even though he isn’t considered “smart” he is still intelligent in many ways.

One example of Charlie showing that he has mathematical/logical intelligence is when he says, “I have included in my report all of my formulae, as well as mathematical analysis in the appendix.” After Charlie figures out why he and Algernon are regressing so quickly, he came up with his own theory, “The Algernon-Gordon Effect.” He had to use complex equations and difficult math to finally come to the conclusion that their intelligence is decreasing at the same rate that it had come just months before. Exchanging money. Making decisions. Answering questions. Mathematical/Logical intelligence is very important in everyday scenarios. If you didn’t have mathematical or logical intelligence you could not solve many problems that might really affect you in the long run. Also it is important when investing your money in something/someone. For example if you can choose between a bank that pays you a five percent interest rate or a three percent interest rate you would have to do the math and see how much money you would earn each year for keeping your money in each
