Lots of the technology we use today, which is a part of our daily routines, was invented in the 1920s. The 1920s was a time directly after World War 1, so many of the soldiers were thrilled to come home and live a more buoyant life. After the war, the American economy was growing and solidifying its power in the world economy. This left a lot of leisure time giving people more time to do different activities, like spending money. Everyone started getting richer, so with the introduction of all these new inventions people were eager to buy them. Automobiles were able to be bought by almost anyone and planes were being improved to travel around the globe. Women were still working in the homes, but with the invention of many kitchen appliances, …show more content…
Many of the inventions created during the 20s like the car industry with Ford’s Model T, the use of radios everywhere, and even the impact new kitchen appliances had on women shaped American culture and the way Americans live today.
Ford’s creation of The Model T was the world’s first universal car that got America driving everywhere. This model was first invented in 1908 by Henry Ford and manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. The Model T was one of the very first mass-production vehicles because Ford wanted his cars to be bought by all of America. This model was the first vehicle that saw the steering wheel placed on the left side of the car, to give easy access to the cars. Although Henry Ford didn’t invent the very first automobile, he was the first person to find a more efficient way for manufacturing a large number of vehicles at a time. This new method was called the moving assembly line. An assembly line was used mainly in other industries like slaughterhouses, seeming efficient. So when Ford Motor Company decided to implement an assembly line, they were able to efficiently produce mass amounts of cars. The assembly line began to be used in the Ford Motor Company which allowed the work to be taken to the workers step-by-step instead of the workers

People would think that new household appliances would decrease the workload for women, but they actually did the opposite. Although the washing machine and other kitchen appliances made housework easier, people were expecting homes to be cleaner, which made women use their “leisure time” to clean the house even more. Electricity was being put into more and more homes which allowed people to buy these new appliances for their homes. The wiring for electricity had become more common, with 24% of U.S. homes having electricity in 1917, and then by the beginning of 1930 was almost at 70%. With the use of radios using advertisements, advertising grew that claimed the appliances would shorten tasks and give women more free time to have more fun, not just inside the home. Women would still be expected to work in the house just less physically with the new inventions. With the creation of the washing machine, women were able to reduce the time of cleaning clothes by a long time. When women washed clothes manually, they had to heat about 50 gallons of water and rub clothes on a washboard. They would then rinse the clothes again in a big tube and wring them out by hand, and finally hang them up to dry. But the new and improved washing machine allowed women to take less time washing clothes. Another electronic invention was the vacuum cleaner which was one of the more labor-saving devices in
