There are quite a few factors that may affect when or where a property is burgled. Like: weather, while most people are indoors during bad weather this is not the case in hot weather/summer months. Also, if you live in countries that have hurricanes and/or flooding you will see people taking advantage of that fact and break in to people’s house or businesses because they have packed up and left. People will also leave holiday homes so these would also be targeted. In the UK we obviously do not have the good weather problems so burglaries increased when more women went out to work and were not at home during the day like before. Are the cars used while at work? They will also check if the property has some cover so they can hide or somewhere they can watch from. Is the house visibly open to neighbours and the public? If the house has bushes, high trees etc that provides some protection to the criminal. Some criminals don’t always want the household possessions some are after the high-end vehicles not the household possessions. Properties people have just moved into are also very high risk, as a lot of people can’t unload their removal vans without people being able to see what is going inside the house. Most people don’t actually change their content insurance over until they have moved in a day or two but by then it can be too late as if their burgled they not covered at the new address. Most people that have moved in will normally go out for dinner as they have no food in the new house etc but that’s when someone could have the window of opportunity to make a move. Burglaries are usually for quick money, quick turn over. Stuff that can be sold on asap. If you live in an area or close to an area of known offenders, possible drug addicts etc you would be high risk of being burgled.
