The People of Ireland.

Hello my name is Simon and I´m going to tell you a little bit about the history of the Irish people. The Irish people is a big ethnic group that is native to the island of Ireland, which all share a common culture, ancestry and identity. About 9000 years ago Ireland was inhabited, at least according to archaeological studies. The English medieval clan “Anglo-Normans” conquered parts of Ireland in the 12th century. Today, Ireland is made up of the Republic of Ireland, known as an independent state but the Northern Ireland still belongs to the UK. The people of Northern Ireland has a lot of various identities that includes Irish, Northern Irish, British, or some kind of combination thereof.

Irish was always their main language in the past, but today the majority of the Irish people speak english as their primary language. According to scientists the Irish nation was made up of kin groups or clans. A thing not many people know is that they also had their own religion, law code and style of dress. Throughout the history of Ireland there has been many well known people born there, The scientist Robert Boyle, Robert Mallet “the father of seismology” and the 6th century Irish monk Columbanus is regarded as one of the “fathers of Europe”. A small fact is also that many of the presidents of the US have some irish ancestry. On Ireland there lives about 6.3 million people, but according to studies about 50 to 80 million people have Irish forebears, making the Irish one of the biggest nation historically.
