When Cultures meet.
In this assignment I will be discussing when cultures meet within the Travelling community and settled community in Ireland and The Aboriginals in Australia. I will be discussing how and where they originated from. I will be using the Ice bearg of culture concept by talking about their food, language, history and also their deeper aspects such as values, traditions, symbols, beliefs and what they think.
History:
In Ireland there are only about 20,000 travelers in Ireland which is a very small minority of the overall population. Irish travelers are only a subculture in the overall Irish culture. History: In Australia there are about 400,000 Aboriginal people living there. It is known that they have been living in Australia for over 20,000 years and had originally come from places in Asia. They originally settled along the rivers and fertile areas of southern Australia. The Aboriginal people where hunter gathers and lived in separation from the outside world for thousands of years. ‘’There was no concept of owning land as you were tied to the land by your spiritual links and what the land could provide for you.’’ (A Short Aboriginal History 2010)

I spoke about how their way of life living in caravans and travelling was different from the settled community living in a house. Their beliefs and norms are similar to the settled community as they both are catholic but the Irish travelling community are very religious have a strong belief in god unlike some of the Irish settled community. Also, I spoke about how most children attend education and go to third level education unlike in the travelling community where most children do not attend education at all.. I also spoke about the aboriginals in Australia in detail about their way of life. Their clothing, food and housing is so different and interesting from the way we live today and their way of living was very different to ours. They were hunter gatherers and they use every part of the animal weather as housing, food or hunting tools. I spoke about their religion dreamtime and how they practices many different rituals when moving from childhood into adulthood.
