The last test was called the Acidity test. The Acidity test gives us the alkalinity and acid of a stream. On the Ph scale it goes from 0 to 14. A stream with a great abundance of life will probably have a reading of 7 on the scale( which is near neutral). Here are the results from some of the tests.
I organized four different tests; pH paper, alkalinity tests, the number of rocks neutralizing acid, and the number of rocks that don’t neutralize acid. The average for pH paper was seven. The pH is the numeric scale used to specify the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution. The pH scale measures acidity and alkalinity. the pH scale goes from zero, which is an acid reading, to fourteen, which is an alkaline reading.
Award winning author J.K Rowling is quoted saying, “You will never truly know yourself or the strength of your relationship until both have been tested by adversity.” This quote directly relates to The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother. Throughout the memoir, James McBride illustrates his mother, hardships, including being abused by her father, being widowed twice, and overcoming adversity to raise twelve collegiate children. The Color of Water by James Mcbride, retraces his mother’s life as well as reveals his own as he travels through the shadows of his own life in Red Hook, Brooklyn during the time period of black civil rights.
In the Color of Water, by James McBride, James learns an important lesson as his story progresses. In chapter 22, he meets Aubrey Rubenstein, who teaches him an important lesson. Aubrey teaches James about Suffolk and the Jewish community. For example, James learns about the pain of Hudis Shilsky which he then states “a new pain and a new awareness were born inside me” (p. 229). through Aubrey, James learn about his Jewish past which he then relates to himself.
James McBride’s The Color of Water is a dual narrative of both his and his mother, Ruth’s, life. McBride weaves the tribulations of his mother’s childhood and adolescence with his own. And what is created is a memoir of lost innocence and necessary rebirth told through the lens of a white Jewish woman and a biracial man. Although McBride’s autobiography illustrates the beauty in facing adversity, there are moments at which those certain adversities are downright uncomfortable for the readers. Experiencing Ruth’s abusive childhood, McBride’s disillusionment with his life, and the crumbling household Ruth grew up in through this narrative is both powerful and painful; this “sometimes uncomfortable” content reminds readers that good and bad nuances
“Why did they all leave?” (Mcbride, Pg225) said James Mcbride. James is the author and character in his memoir “The Color of Water”. He is struggling to find out more background information of where his family came from, but he is soon to realize that in order for him to find out where his family first originated from, he has to find out where they lived and what they did. So he traveled to suffolk of where they lived and finds an old friend.
Realizing the Truth Knowing one’s self is an essential part in a person’s life. If one does not fully know their individuality, it will lead to the longing for understanding. Ways of finding identity differentiate between each person, some situations being more difficult than others. James, from the novel The Color of Water by James McBride, is an African-American boy who is living during the times of racial segregation between blacks and whites and struggles to discover his white mother’s history to trace the lines to his identity. Mujahhid, from the stories of the book Santa Claus in Baghdad by Elsa Marston, is a Palestinian boy who is in a dispute between the Israeli soldiers and finds the meaning of God’s decisions that impacted his life and the truth of the people in Israel, using knowledge to face the Israel army.
Carbonic acid is a weak acid and so split into bicarbonate ions and hydrogen ions. Bicarbonate ions also further split up into carbonate ions and hydrogen ions. • The acidity of the water is dependent on hydrogen ions, so as the number of hydrogen ions increases the Ph decreases making the water more acidic. • Evidence shows that the oceans ph has dropped by 0.1 ph units since pre industrial times. • It which may not sound like much but this is actually a 30% increase in the concentration of hydrogen ions.
Vincent Cremona in his essay “My Pen Writes in Blue and White” argues that every writer’s style is the result of blending previous patterns taught and learned by observation or by action. Every line of a composition reflects the writer’s personality, but sometimes it combines the personalities of more than one individual. Cremona explains that “the manner in which [he] now write[s] has been directly affected by the two major influences in [his] life, [his] parents” (195). Every writer’s voice is shaped by close relationships which is reflected in his compositions. This voice can be formed during childhood since the human being acts like a sponge absorbing everything around it.
Everyone knows the simple and easy experiment of vinegar and baking soda, but do you really know how it works. This paper will not only explain what makes these two very different chemicals react, but also what materials you will need to accomplish this easy science experiment. Baking soda and vinegar are two different chemical with two very different uses, they are not really even supposed to be used for a science experiment, take vinegar for example, some individuals use vinegar for cooking. Baking soda has a very different use, it is used for bee-stings. When vinegar and baking soda are combined, the hydrogen ions in the vinegar interact with the sodium and bicarbonate in the baking soda.
The Color of Water explores life in two very different perspectives, each with their own purpose and meaning of living. However, despite their vast differences, they are harmonious in a sense that these two distinct characters, James McBride and Rachel Shilsky, seeks for an identity that would ultimately satisfy their means for individuality and the awareness of their connection to the universe. For instance, James questions his true relation towards his so-called mother, as race sets them apart, and Rachel, though she omits to reveal her mysterious past, has found her value in society by her strong-will and sheer acceptance - embracing a culture that could cause personal harm to her life, yet unfazed at that. Having learned about the conflicts
Acids are proton donors in chemical reactions which increase the number of hydrogen ions in a solution while bases are proton acceptors in reactions which reduce the number of hydrogen ions in a solution. Therefore, an acidic solution has more hydrogen ions than a basic solution; and basic solution has more hydroxide ions than an acidic solution. Acid substances taste sour. They have a pH lower than 7 and turns blue litmus paper into red. Meanwhile, bases are slippery and taste bitter.
“In 1775, more than a million pounds of indigo was exported from South Carolina to England” (Indigo’s Political, Economic, Cultural History 1). This massive amount of dye being traded was due to many factors that made it nearly the perfect trade commodity. The process of indigo dye being made by slaves in South Carolina in the 1700s is shown very well in the book Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. The production of this indigo dye has an extensive history of being extremely arduous to produce naturally, but results in a compact substance that will last a long period of time and be very valuable.
Base is any substance that accepts hydrogen ions in water solutions A: Ranking Substance on the pH Scale 1. pH Scale is the scale used by scientist measuring the relative acidity of a substance B: Some pH Terminology 1. When a solution becomes more basic, the pH rises. Therefore the higher the pH, the more basic the solution: the lower the pH, the more acid in the solution.
Strong acids and strong bases are strong electrolytes and are assumed to ionize completely in the presence of water. Weak acids however, only ionize to a limited extend in water. Any weak or strong acids when in contact with any weak or strong alkali will start to undergo neutralization regardless of their volume. When an indicator which is present in the acid-base mixture and have experienced colour change, it indicates that the mixture is in right proportions to neutralize each other and is also known as the equivalence point.
