Beowulf is an epic poem written in Old English that dates back to 1000 CE. The ancient poem contains the tale of the title character, Beowulf, an Anglo-Saxon warrior in the 6th century. A hero in Anglo-Saxon is told to be greatly defined by Beowulf because of his strength, bravery and courage. Dying in battle is what Anglo-Saxons saw as heroes. The Geats and the Danes looked up to Beowulf as a leader and a hero. He eventually became a devoted king to the Geats. Beowulf is a hero because he is courageous, brave, and a great warrior.
