Have you ever wondered how the world would be if we didn't have access to technology? Ipads, tablets, google, and E-readers are becoming more popular, but various research suggests that the constant use of these technologies affects our ability to read. The continuous use of technology has a negative impact on our brains, m , thoughts, how we read, learn and process information, concentrate and how the brain interprets written languages. In his article “Why the Brain Prefers Paper,” Ferris Jabr claims that the constant use of technologies makes it harder to remember what we read. In his study, children ages three to six years old remembered stories read from paper because they were not easily distracted. The kids abilities were measured when asked about what they read and none of the children could remember. Based on Ganz study, the reader can conclude that the brain prefers paper rather than using technology devices when reading. People that use technology constantly struggle with deep readings because their focus often drifts after two or three pages. This shows that as we use technology regularly, we take away the capacity for concentration. In addition, our mind expects us to take and process information the same way it does with technology. The more we use technology, the more we have to stay focused when reading. Therefore, this illustrates that as we use technology constantly we get used to it and our brain is processed that way. One of my sources, Bruce Friedman, described how the continuous use of technology has altered his mental habits. In this study, Friedman further explains that he has almost lost the ability to read and absorb a long article due to the constant use of technology.
