For this assignment, I chose to read “Is Google Making Us Stupid?’ by Nicholas Carr and “Does Texting Affect Writing?” by Michaela Cullington. As our world is constantly evolving and technology is getting better we as a society are relying more on convenience. Most of us live in a fast-paced environment or are becoming more and more impatient. We want answers now and don’t want to get up or stop what we are doing to get them. Carr’s argument that having the ability to get answers online is hindering our concentration could possibly be linked to Cullington’s theory that texting is affecting our writing.

She believes that texting is convenient, easier than a face to face conversation and quicker than a phone call. I agree with her. After doing her research she found that some teachers were getting assignments handed in by students with abbreviations. Texting is not only convenient but like I said it has its own language or abbreviations. Some teachers believe that because this generation spends more time texting it shows in their formal writing assignments. However, Cullington conducted her own research and got a different result. She conducted a test using eighty-six students at a University and found that there texting does not affect their formal writing skills.
Carr feels that not only does the internet contribute to our lack of concentration but that Google is trying to come up with a way to use Artificial Intelligence to replace our brains. Google is working on advancing technology as most tech companies continue to do. Although they may be trying to one day expand our brains memory or add more data with artificial intelligence, I do not ever see that happening. Artificial intelligence could replace people in factories, but they will never be able to replace people all
