In the tragedy Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, we are in a setting of medieval Scotland. Macbeth is written off as very strong, valiant, and loyal to the King of Scotland, Duncan. Everyone’s view of Macbeth becomes much better in everyone’s eyes after holding off a large-scale attack on Scotland, with the help of his dear friend, Banquo. Banquo also has a son named Fleance. As normal as this place may sound, it is not; there are witches. Witches that will plague your mind with unbelievable prophecies. Macbeth, accompanied by Banquo, is intercepted by these witches. The witches promised great things to Macbeth, becoming the Thane of Cawdor, and more importantly, the king of Scotland. Banquo is promised to be the father of kings. Macbeth …show more content…

Throughout the play, Macbeth descends into insanity, and by the conclusion, he is completely insane. Firstly, Macbeth’s first indication of insanity is when he starts hallucinating and hearing voices. Secondly, Macbeth’s erratic and irrational behavior suggests that Macbeth is insane. Lastly, the last sign of Macbeth’s journey towards insanity is his detachment from reality. Firstly, Macbeth starts hallucinating from time to time. People who are sane do not just hallucinate for no reason, and Macbeth has a very good reason to hallucinate, he killed many individuals. Macbeth’s hallucinations only show up when something traumatic happens. For example, Macbeth ordered 3 murderers to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Macbeth did this because Banquo was promised by the witches to be the father of kings, indicating that something will happen to Macbeth. Macbeth clearly trusts the witches, so he acted to eradicate this threat. It is also to be noted that Banquo was not a threat to Macbeth yet, as they were still friends.
