Macbeth exemplifies the hero’s Journey by proceeding to following along the criteria given by Joseph Campbell’s research. The book goes along with the criteria and as well as the main character Macbeth. In the beginning of the story Macbeth and Banquo are approached by 3 witches who tell both Macbeth and Banquo that Macbeth will become King, but never says how “ All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter ( 327, line 50)’. This would exemplify what Joseph Campbell would call “The Call to Adventure”.
Macbeth only becomes Thane of Cawdor, because of a traitor, but he himself later becomes a traitor. In the beginning it was easy for Macbeth to fight for his king and to honor the name of the man who ruled his land, but once he finds out his future, his entire mindset changes. Macbeth fights and wins a battle in favor for Scotland and king Duncan. A few hours after the battle, the Weird Sisters tell Macbeth what his future looks like. He becomes obsessed with the idea of becoming king and one can sense his thirst for power.
Macbeth’s rough journey towards taking over the throne cuts through many hard objectives. The first objective, which is a sign for further objectives, is the murder of the former king, Duncan. The beginning of the plan to kill Duncan starts with the old witches prophesying that Macbeth will take over the throne. Macbeth wants to follow this prophecy due to his true ambitions. However, the prophecy is followed only because his wife, Lady Macbeth leads Macbeth through this decision.
Gothic harmonies, doll parts, puffs of mist from the mouths of Shakespearean actors, and the gore of the undead invigorate the creepy atmosphere of Macbeth at the Globe Theater. I had the pleasure of viewing Macbeth from The Pit. An experience that can be quite exhausting if your mind wanders from the action of the play to the pain in your feet. Luckily, Macbeth at the Globe sucked me in and trapped me in a world where all of my uneasiness came from the show and not from my toes.

Macbeth is afraid for many reasons. Lady Macbeth convinced him to murder King Duncan, and the crime leaves Macbeth with a lot or regret. He also recently hired someone to kill Banquo, his best friend. Banquo’s ghost greets Macbeth at the banquet, giving him quite a fright. Macbeth is very afraid that Banquo’s ghost is coming back to harass him about his wrongdoings.

The witches played a colossal role in Macbeth’s downfall and ultimately, his death. Since the first part of the prophecy stated Macbeth as being the new Thane of Cawdor, he believed he could continue to become king as well. In knowing his prediction, Macbeth also realized that since the king was in good health, so he would have to kill the king himself. For the rest of his prophecy to come true he would have to kill the king for himself. “All hail, Macbeth that shalt be king hereafter!”
