Isaac Asimov: The “A” of Science Fiction
There is a popular idea in the realm of science fiction literature that there are three major authors that have shaped what science fiction is, referred to as the “ABCs” of science fiction. The A in this trio is Asimov, and after reading the works of this man, it is not hard to understand why he is given this placement and honor. Isaac Asimov was an incredibly influential author in the genre of science fiction because of his prolific nature, many of his original concepts became standards of the genre while words became common in reality, and he was a true master of idea- based stories.
One of the reasons why Asimov is so important and influential to science fiction is because of the sheer quantity of books he wrote. Asimov is responsible for having either written or edited around 500 books in his lifetime. According to general information about him on Wikipedia, “Asimov was a prolific writer, and wrote or edited more than 500 books and an estimated 90,000 letters and postcards.” The large number of books written itself makes him one of the most prolific authors of all time, enough to put even Steven King to shame.
