The importance of “Islam” is peace and submission, therefore a person who follows or believes this religion is called a Muslim (Introduction to Islam). The five pillars of Islam are state individually throughout the Qur’an. Prophet Mohammad was the one to list them together in the hadith (report) when he was asking to define Islam. The 5 pillars that the Islamic religion practices are faith, salat (prayer), zakat (charity), Ramadan and hajj (pilgrimage). Every year in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar is when the fasting begins. All adults and kids at the age of 10 are obligatory too fast for the 30 days. The kids at age 10 it helps them develop self-control, laziness and overcome selfishness (5 pillars of Islam). The month of Ramadan is to encourage Islam’s to seek nearness to Allah by the less fortunate some people have.
