Today isolation is affecting many lives everywhere. Isolation is caused by many different things; for example, modern technology is to blame for certain cases of isolation. Some believe that modern technology does not cause isolation; however, there is plenty of research proving modern technology can be a cause. Individuals spend most of their days looking at their phone or computer screen, instead of communicating and interfering with other individuals. Technology should not be the first thing individuals turn to when something gets difficult. They still spent their time meeting up after soccer practice, going to the mall or hanging out at their friends’ houses.” Teenagers in the past worked on farms or attended school. In the past, most technology devices weren’t accessible to most people, forcing them to get out of their comfort zone and communicate and interact with other individuals. Most older folks do not have a problem with isolation through modern technology. Several years ago, technology wasn’t a desire to have to most people. In the past people would interact with others more than they do now. Teenagers especially got out of their comfort zone and personal space in the past. Individuals in the past did not seem to be isolated as much as individuals today. The interactions that the children and adults in the past occurred in made them feel appreciated by others and less like they were isolated. Families in the past entertained each other, now family members entertain themselves with technology. Families in the past spent most evenings together dong thing they loved. Parents used to make their children wait until they truly needed a cellular device. However, recently parents have been allowing their young children to get cellular devices when it wasn’t truly necessary. Parents are so busy these days that they do not spend one on one with their children. Parents use technology to keep their kids entertained; furthermore, the parents let the technology parent their child more than they do. Today, children are surrounded with iPads, tablets, and other gaming systems to keep them entertained. When children today get fussy and irritated, parents first reaction is to hand them an electronic device rather than punishing their child for misbehaving. Young children are taught to look for their electronic device when they become bored. The average age a child received his or her first cellular device a decade ago was twelve to thirteen. Today the average age a child receives his or her first phone is ten. It is not necessary for young children to have a smartphone or social media sites. Parents should wait to give their children technology devices when it is necessary. Technology can be harmful to children and even young adults.
