An issue that we see often, not just at Mary's Center, but in other rural and urban areas are issues with accessing care. As mentioned by Wootton (2017), "One of the greatest challenges facing humankind in the 21st century is to make high-quality health care available to all" (p. 3). He also goes on explaining how with the trouble of accessing care is that when it comes to the provider and the recipient, they must be available at the exact same time and place (p. 3). Learning throughout my semesters at the universities, I know there are patients that would go to the emergency room (ER) for non-urgent complications and it could be a small complication. 4). No matter where the person could be, at any moment, at any given time, it should not matter as long as they are getting the care that they need. "Mary's Center, a community health center in Washington, DC, has been testing a telemedicine program to improve access to primary care for Medicaid patients" (The Lafayette Sun, 2018). Mary's Center, that treat Medicaid patients have shown that some are not capable to visit when it comes to their care and it can be, "due to mobility issues, inability to take off work, and childcare issues" (The Lafayette Sun, 2018). The way they continued to accomplish the issues of patients' with finding access to care, not only by introducing the telemedicine programs, but they have health screening fairs that helps patients become aware that there are these services for them. When Mary's Center continue to do these programs, it gives them an idea of how these services can really provide the support these patients' need that live within these rural and urban areas.
