I thoroughly enjoyed this book it's written by Mike Lupica who writes other sport books like this one. It kept my attention the whole time and was one of the few books that I actually enjoyed. It was about this boy named Michael he was a all star pitcher on his baseball team. Both of his parents were died when he was young and he is living with his brother, eventually some coaches from other teams think he isn’t within the age limit to play and he can’t find his birth certificate to prove his age so he isn’t allowed to pitch. He has to try to find his birth certificate and has to try to get by without pitching.
Dane Kutnick is in right field , Tanner Smith at first, and Jason VanDenLangenberg is catching. We have played 3 tournaments together, but we already looked like we have been playing together for a long time. We may not have known it yet, but they were going to turn one of the best plays of the year. We are going into the bottom of the 6th inning.
Bad things happen to good people. A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket, is a story about the orphans that are in a bad situation. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire parents died in a fire while Count Olaf is trying to steal their fortune. They escaped Count Olaf and got to safety for a little. They learned that bad things happen to good people too.
In life, people find different ways to cope with their issues. This is the case in “Vaclav and Lena” by Hayley Tanner, where the main characters Vaclav and Lena face many obstacles, but use their imaginations to help them deal with the struggles they face in reality. This relates to the quote “Imagination is the one weapon in the in the war against reality” by Jules de Gautier, because Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of better things to come, to ignore the problems they currently face. Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of the future to forget about their issues momentarily, and to be able to postpone dealing with them.
War makes people do the unspeakable; these horrid acts include dehumanizing enemies, torturing fellow citizens, isolating people, and much more. Most of the people who experienced this were POWs (Prisoners of War). What these POWs endured was invisibility which means in a literal sense that they were isolated or “cut off” from each other and/or society, and in a figurative sense they lost their dignity. A story of one of these POWs is of Louie Zamperini. Louie enlisted in the war on the Western Front, and he got captured during battle.
The Last True Story I’ll Ever Tell is a historical non-fiction account of the Iraq War by John Crawford. The story takes place in Baghdad, Iraq during the Iraq War in 2003. During that time John Crawford must endure the everyday struggles and the harsh conditions of being a soldier in Iraq to return home. Unlike many war glory stories given by many soldiers when they return home, this story is an account of how the soldiers’ innocence was taken, transformed into something darker and what they did to endure it. The Last True Story I’ll Ever Tell gives an honest and raw account of the situation and shows how much soldiers sacrifice in war.

A Child Called "It" is a creative non-fiction memoir of the American author David James "Dave" Pelzer. The story takes place in Daly City, San Francisco, California between the late 1960s and early 1970s. Pelzer wrote several autobiographical and self-help books and is best known for his 1995 memoir of childhood abuse titled A Child Called "It". His book is written in the author's viewpoint and it is about the severe abuse that he suffered as a child. The book shows the readers the many emotional and physical methods that his mother had abused him when he was at the age of 4 to the age of 12, which was when he was sent into foster care.
Peyton Honorowski K. Borchers ENGL 1030 25 April 2023 The Art of Being a Lady “What am I bound to?” the boy asks. “An obligation you already had, and a person you will not meet for some time” (Morgenstern 35).
In the memoir Night, written by Elie Wiesel, the protagonist struggles with his initial important values while going through times of despair, urging him to abandon these morals for his own individual good. It is immensely imperative that he does not give in. Elie’s experience as a victim in the Holocaust threatens his loyalty to his father, relationship with God, and compassion with others to weaken. The main character is consistently pressed to discard these things, once the most meaningful matters to him, in order for him to stay alive. For most people facing the same situation as Elie, their one and only ambition is self-preservation, causing all of their other initial, now irrelevant, morals to go out the window in order for them to protect
At some point in everyone’s lives, they get the opportunity to name something. Whether it is a toy, a dog, or a kid, people usually put in a grand amount of effort in making this decision. The reason for this is people acknowledge that names can influence us on how others interpret or act towards someone or something. We also just try to pick the right name to describe the object. In the article, “What’s in a Name?” by Roger Dooley, he talks all about the importance of naming in the world of advertising and in our general lives.
How could one treat an innocent child so cruel? During the time of the genocide in which Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany and its collaborators killed about six million people from the Jewish population, children were the main target. By looking at the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, one can see through the use of imagery, diction and conflict that innocent children were starved abused separated from their family, and killed during the Holocaust, which is important because young innocent children should never have to be deprived of their childhood. First, children of the Holocaust were abused or beaten for any wrong move that they made or even attempted to make.
In the foreword of the novel, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, there is a quote that reads: “But it’s so much more than a book about depression. It’s about the promise of hope, strength, and the desire to live” (Cohn 1). This quote describes the feeling of the whole novel, which is about a kid named Craig Gilner who is battling depression, but also figuring out who he desires to be. Consequently, you’ll soon detect that Craig has an unexplainable strength that he doesn’t think he has till later through his journeys through a psychiatric hospital. In this journal I will be evaluating the person that is Craig Gilner, visualizing the psychiatric hospital he sojourns in, and predicting what choice he will compose when it comes to his life.
The main character, Charlie, has suffered from schizophrenia since the story began, hurting his self-confidence when beginning high school. The first time his condition is emphasized in recorded time is after he takes acid and has a trip. Once he is in the hospital and is discussing what he went through on this “trip” he says he has visions, immediately forcing his mother to become stressed and concerned for his health and well being. Once again, Charlie’s serious case came up after his friends left for college. He resorted to having visions of his aunt’s death, causing him to feel the need to kill himself.
