The essay, Ethics and Intelligence by J.E. Drexel Godfrey, focuses on intelligence being a profession and how it somehow correlates with one another. It also discusses about the espionage and morals of a professional by talking about the ways of how informations are obtained constituting as “ethical dilemmas.” The essay states that intelligence is a foundation of an ethical principle by truth telling, in which, the truth is their purpose. In addition, it mentions how an intelligence opinion is an important aspect, or procedure, when creating policies dealing with foreign affairs. I conclude that the knowledge of what the intelligence personnel input gives the government officials an in-depth understanding and knowledge of who, and what, they are dealing with. It adds up to the list of disadvantages and advantages, and how they are going to make agreements with other countries. Needless to say, the United States will not put itself in harm by mistrusting that is why they will learn everything about who they are facing first. But, then again, it is also not fair for the other countries if the United States know something about their country and is able to have an advantage in foreign agreements. I agree with most of the main points that the essay hit except that the job affects one’s morality and one of the drawbacks that uses an intelligence opinion on foreign policy making. Although their ethical predicament is truth telling, it may seem a bit unethical to others due to their methods. I assume that an intelligence profession is a tough job because not only the information they gathered affect the United States, but possibly the entire world. Hence, they are very careful and thorough when they are validating the informations they have
