The Fellowship of the Ring is an epic written by J.R.R Tolkien in 1954. The epic takes place in a fictional world named Middle-Earth. The title itself tells some aspects of the book. The Ring, a possession of The Dark Lord Sauron, is used for evil deeds. Sauron placed much of his power in the Ring, and controls people through it. This is all in an effort to enslave all of Middle-earth and rise back to power. Sauron lost his power when a great Man cuts the ring from his finger and steals the ring from him. The ring has a mind of its own, and goes down in generations passing through different people. The possession of the Ring will more often than not, lead to your death. He takes it back to his home in the Shire, the infamous home to hobbits. Hobbits are subtle creatures, who are most of the time known as small, hairy men. Bilbo passes the precious heirloom to his family member, Frodo Baggins, on his 111th birthday. The ring impregnates Bilbo with the desire to stay with it. This passion is split by the great Wizard, Gandalf the Grey. Gandalf finds out that the ring, is The Ring of Sauron. Gandalf informs Frodo that he must pack his things and leave the Shire. Unsure Frodo obeys the all-powerful wizard, and sets off with his friends; Sam, Merry, and Pippin. The power of the Ring is so strong that it will overwhelm anyone who holds it; it’s power also attracts the servants of Sauron, Ringwraiths (Black Riders). After traversing the Old Forest, the Company heads to Bree. In Bree they meet Aragorn (Strider), and he saves them from an ambush from the Black Riders. Then the head with their new member of the Company to Weathertop. Here they make a stand against the relentless Riders of Sauron; but Frodo endures a potential mortal wound by a …show more content…

at Rivendell they have a Council about the Ring and Frodo. Frodo now learns where the ring has to go; to the treacherous Cracks of Doom at Mordor. The Fellowship of the Ring is now created! The full group is Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas-an Elf, Gimli-a Dwarf, and Boromir-a Man. They attempt traveling over the Misty Mountains, but instead take a rather unfortunate detour to the Mines of Moria. The leader and mentor of the pack, Gandalf saves his friends by parrying with a Balrog. The fight ends with the Balrog and Gandalf falling into the chasm of Khazad-dûm; before he falls, Gandalf says the famous quote “Fly you fools!” The Company now heads to Lórien, the forest of the Galadrim Elves, where they encounter Lady Galadriel. Frodo, who is entranced by Galadriel’s power, offers her the Ring. She refuses, because the Ring is too powerful, even for her. The Fellowship now travels by boat down the Great River, Anduin. They catch sight of the creature Gollum; a creature that had once possessed the Ring but then lost it to Bilbo in The Hobbit.
