The power of stories manifests itself in literature, film, and more generally life. Stories inspire, provide hope, and bring understanding. Leslie Marmon Silko’s novel Ceremony permeates the strength of stories. Ceremony follows the story of Tayo, a half white Native American plagued by the invasion of European culture, as well as his own past of war and loss. However, through the folk stories of his Laguna culture, as well as the advice he has been given to embrace his past, Tayo is able to see the world more clearly.

In his excerpt “How to Tell a True War Story”, from his novel The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien explains that a true war story is not moral, does not stop the things that have always happened, is obscene, is surreal, is detailed, does not depend on exact truth, and leaves people with nothing much to say besides “Oh.” Based on Tim O’Brien’s depiction of a “true war story”, Kurt Vonnegut’s novel Slaughterhouse-Five is an acutely authentic story of war. Narration and narrative are inherent to the acquisition of power through communication. By communicating individual histories, people are placed in a specific function in their community. Denying the creation of those stories places people outside of their community with no reference for how they should function in that community. The alienation created by the inability to communicate is reinforced by this inability to create a history for themselves. The importance of history can be seen in the conclusions of the novel.

They prove how the development of characters advances the plot as a whole by affecting the way the characters view themselves, creating more realistic and relatable
Many of the novels discuss narrative and memory in an artistic form. These stories are told through ongoing character experiences in an ongoing plot. Overtime, sentimental events unfold. However, true narrative art enables the reader to grasp a better sense of the characters generational struggle while capturing the moments in the novel's time frame. From a first person artistic perspective, the reader is provided characters who serve as witnesses not only to their own life stories, but, to the larger history of the era.
In ‘’ How to Write a Memoir ‘’,William Zinsser gives advice on how to write a memoir. The most specific advice he gave was ‘’Be Yourself ‘’, ‘’Tell your own story ‘’ , and ‘’Speak freely ‘’ (2,4,6). That advice help writers to tell their own story and how they want to tell it . Some memoir is told from a child point of view . In Maya Van Wagenen memoir ‘’Popular’’ supports Zinsser writing advice through his use of child point of view , an honest storytelling , and a structure of small memories .
In the three texts each of them tackled the different natures of writing by concentrating on a given topic, creative non fiction as a new writing genre, the distinction of writing fairy tales to fiction, and writing as a tool to move about the social hierarchy. In Susan Lara’s ‘Creative Nonfiction: The Fourth Genre Comes of Age’ she introduce to its readers a new literary form known as creative fiction. She identified it by mentioning its previous incarnations such as literary journalism, interpretative journalism, etc. News stories as we all know contains brief factual accounts and events based on a particular subject of interest.
Three of the most important aspects of any story are the point of view, characterization and plot. In the short stories “Geraldine Moore the Poet,” “The Story-Teller,” and “Enemy Territory” this statement proves to be true. With a good analysis, all of these things can be found in the stories. Additionally, the point of view, characterization and plot can relate to the theme. The point of view needs to be scrutinized throughout the whole story.
