In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, because of three defining moments, Jack changed the most out of all the boys. The first of the moments that changed him occurred in the beginning of the novel on page 23 when Ralph was chosen to be the chief of the boys instead of Jack. Jack was upset at not being chief, but he still took a position of leadership by making the choir boys the hunters and volunteering to be in charge of them. Ralph says “Jack’s in charge of the choir. They can be-what do you want them to be?’’
Lord of the Flies Jack represents being power hungry and disobedient for the incorrect reasons In the book Lord of the flies, there are several things that connect the earth right now and human expertise. In the book most of the boys go through a phase that they never went through before, through out the book they're going through a "animal-like" phase that I feel the reader does not expect from them. I decided a decision} to concentrate on Jack because I believe that he was a lot more animal-like then the other boys because of that I think he extremely stands out because of his actions and feelings he made the other boys animal-like. I feel this is often necessary as a result of the influence he created on the other boys is quite like
At this stage, it is also worth noting that the choir is “wearily obedient” and he seems to wield total control over them. Golding uses these quotes to suggests that Jack shows evilness when he first gets described. During the middle of the two novels, both characters change because of thirst of power. The turning point in both novels where power changes both characters is during the middle of both novels.
Although sharing the same self-serving intent, Jack Merridew acts in his own, distinct way. Though he has not gone completely without opposition on the island, a clearer divide between his tribe and Ralph's remaining followers starts to form. In order to seize total control, he decides to make an example out of Piggy. Like Assef, he uses fear to control the people. However, unlike Assef, Jack rationalizes the murder as simply a way to show off his power.
In the book “Lord of the Flies” Jack isn’t the only one that started the destruction of the island but in my point of view the ultimate cause is Jack is the main cause of the destruction of the island the one that led to the destruction he is careless that only cares about himself and that wants to be the one everyone listens to the one everyone looks up to. In the beginning Jack has always had that ruthless look in him,that feeling of evil I mean he had red hair kinda symbolize as a devil,he saw himself powerful when he sees weak in people he takes advantage of them and makes fun of it without even realizing. Jack Merridew is by far the most powerful individual on the island. He influences the boys to do things by yelling at them throughout the book. Just as it is stated in The Perils of Obedience by Kendra Cherry, “The physical presence of an authority figure dramatically increased compliance,” (Cherry 2). Jack is the main authority figure that has a lot of power of the kids because of his appeal to what they want and to the way he runs things. He runs his tribe like a dictatorship over the rest of the boys, but because they do what they want to do they comply with what he says, even though it is not the right thing.
A symbol, a word by definition means, a material object representing something immaterial. The character Jack Merridew, in Lord of The Flies symbolizes chaos, insanity, and ego. In Lord of The Flies Jack Merridew symbolizes chaos by demanding, “’ We want meat’” (51).
EVIL AS AN INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY IN LORD OF THE FLIES BY WILLIAM GOLDING INTRODUCTION There is a constant tension or conflict between good and evil in the world. At times evil appears to be so dominant and powerful that we may even think evil to be supreme. But, sooner or later the momentary supremacy of the evil gives way to the ultimate triumph of good. We often blame the society or the political system for the evils that are being perpetrated in the world.
This is shown in Lord of the Flies when Ralph is overthrown and Jack becomes the leader. However, power was not handed to Jack, he had to work to show he could be a leader. The ways he gained power were by showing he was a good hunter, by showing Ralph's weaknesses, and by exploiting the boy's fears.

In Lord of the Flies Jack constantly wants to be in power. To be in power, Jack has to prove himself to the boys who support Ralph that he has what it takes. This causes him to become savage and rude. He becomes more violent and disrespectful when he is asked
Manipulation to create power One powerful tool to gain power over an induvidual is minipulation. In goldings novel lord of the flies many characters are minipulated and power changes hand through many characters. The key character that creates power through manipulation is jack. The three ways he uses this manipulation is by violance , food and fear. One of the most powerful forms of manipulation that jack uses in the novel is fear.
Pitiful. I felt pitiful. What were we doing right now? We were all crying right now and acting like a bunch of wusses. I am Jack Merridew, I am not putting up with this anymore.
Chapter 2: 1) Smart: to feel a stinging pain. “The afternoon sun slanted in from the other side of the platform and most of the children, feeling too late the smart of sunburn, had put their clothes on” (Golding 32). Hindering: slowing down someone’s or something’s progress. “You’re hindering Ralph” (Golding 34).
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, over a dozen boys are stranded on an island with no adults and to fend for themselves. One individual in Jack Merridew, a boy who is turned cruel and ruthless, is being charged with 1st degree murder for the deaths of two boys, Piggy and Simon. First degree murder is characterized as deaths that a person committed was the individual either plans and commits the murder conscience of their actions. Jack is guilty of first degree and should be charged with 1st murder degree murder because of his direct involvement in Simon’s death, his dictatorial of leadership leading to the other boys’ savage behavior, and his disregard for human life.
