The Lord of the Flies, A book by William Golding, was influenced greatly by the surroundings of the author. His surroundings affected his logic, his emotions, and his credibility. Because of the outside influence he was recorded as saying, “...man produces evil as a bee produces honey...”. In this quote he is stating that all a human will ever do is cause and create evil. I will go over how his pathos, logos, and ethos about governments affected his writing and the characters differences in governments.
Jack is desperate to show his dominance and power. Jack says, “Couldn’t let you do it on your own” (106) to Ralph when Ralph was trying to reach and get closer to the cave that the boys thought held the beastie. The cave is the one area that Jack was not able to explore while hunting due to its limited accessibility. As Ralph tries to reach the cave, Jack follows him. “Jack was edging along the edge.”
Lord of the Flies Character Case Study Jack Merridew is a 13 year old male who experienced a traumatic plane crash, resulting in being marooned on an island for perhaps 2 months with a group of his peers similar in age. He is a former choirmaster and head boy in his school, and hereby therefore he has experience in leadership and control. His current physical health status is concluded as decent, considering the circumstances. Merridew's hobbies on the island included hunting and killing pigs, and singing/chanting. While marooned, Jack let the possibility of being rescued slip his mind, and instead focused his goals on surviving, hunting, and doing whatever they wanted.
Near the end of their time on the island, Piggy, Sam, and Eric are the only ones left with Ralph, and Jack, who appears as “a chief now in truth; and he made stabbing motions with his spear” (Golding 168). Jack starts to get violent, and what was fun when they first got to the island become attempts to kill. At this point, Jack has fully taken over, and the only thing left for him to do is kill Ralph. Lord of the Flies exemplifies how when one person has all of the power, there is always somebody else that wants it more than that person. Ralph is not against Jack, nor does he want to fight with him for the chief position, but ambition and violence overtakes Jack, and he turns into a dangerous savage.

In the book most of the boys go through a phase that they never went through before, through out the book they're going through a "animal-like" phase that I feel the reader does not expect from them. In chapter six and seven of Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack is characterized as vicious. For example, after the group finished hunting pigs, they all decided to re-act it as a joke, except with Robert as the fake pig. However, Jack took this too far and he “had [Robert] by the hair and was brandishing his knife” (Golding 114). It starts off as a joke, but instead Robert ends up getting hurt because of Jack’s viciousness. Next, Jack is shown to be vicious during the meeting when Sam and Eric are explaining that they saw the beast.

One individual in Jack Merridew, a boy who is turned cruel and ruthless, is being charged with 1st degree murder for the deaths of two boys, Piggy and Simon. First degree murder is characterized as deaths that a person committed was the individual either plans and commits the murder conscience of their actions. Jack is guilty of first degree and should be charged with 1st murder degree murder because of his direct involvement in Simon’s death, his dictatorial of leadership leading to the other boys’ savage behavior, and his disregard for human life.

Jack's tribe helps him steal Piggy's glasses, allowing Jack to start fires and continue the support of life while completely disestablishing the other leader, Ralph. Ultimately, Jack's possession of power allows him to murder and steal whatever he chooses.
Jury’s Verdict Society must fight against those who rip society apart by breaking laws and acting unethically. Citizens must make the right decisions in order to maintain a healthy community for many years to come. As jury for the trial of Jack Merridew, we have concluded Jack Merridew to be guilty, for he is responsible for the deaths of Simon and Piggy. When deciding an accused person’s fate, there should be no bias involved, since members of the jury have to look at the case from multiple points of view. The factors that suggested Jack Merridew’s guilt include why he and his tribe had not used traps rather than spears, his attempt to murder Ralph, and how the leader should be the one responsible for a group's actions.

Throughout the novel, “Lord of the Flies” written by William Golding, a group of boys stuck on an island experience many conflicts that children shouldn’t have to encounter. One boy that stands out is Jack Merridew an intimidating, commanding, and brutish like leader that follows Hobbes like philosophy that developed the island into a chaotic realm. Once the children start settling they quickly realize that there is no wreckage from the plane crash, which is the only possible way that they assume they ended up on the island and surprisingly many of the children were in good health. The climate on the island was hot and humid with occasionally some rainy weather traveling over the island. The Children soon start to realize that a leader needs to be appointed.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, a Russian novelist and historian once said,”The battle line between good and evil runs through the heart of every man.” In William Golding’s novel Lord of the flies, Jack, the supposedly good former choirmaster and student leader, is a representative of evil and violence when tempted by savagery and greed. Jack has the major authority and develops a higher status compared to other characters in the novel. He is a born leader who carries out his concerns over various problems, however the abusive use of power leads him towards the evil path. Golding has effectively used figurative devices such as a beast metaphor, colour symbolism , controlling tone, imagery of Jack’s appearance and environment to demonstrate his desire of power and devolving character.
There’s always that specific person who is to blame for everything. They might not be entirely accountable but they hold the majority of it. At first, they tried to form a government so there’s order present in the island, but things don’t specifically follow through.
