Ever so often we are faced with the horrendous acts humankind is capable of. The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a fictional book about a group of british school boys who get stranded on an island which showcases the savagery we are all capable of. They lose their civility and become savages, and as a result some die such as Simon, Piggy and the boy with the birthmark. Until they are saved at last by a naval officer. All in all Ralph’s poor leadership and Jack’s unrestrained brutality were the ultimate reason for the islands demise.
In the Lord of The Flies the boys seem to lose some qualities when they are trying to survive, The main example of this is Jack. The things that i think they lose the most are sympathy, common sense and the ability to think clearly. First, the boys seem to lose their sympathy for other things and for themselves. At this point in the book Jack starts to try to take control over the group of kids, a piece of evidence that shows this would be, Ralph made a step forward and Jack smacked Piggy’s head.
Lord of the Flies Character Case Study Jack Merridew is a 13 year old male who experienced a traumatic plane crash, resulting in being marooned on an island for perhaps 2 months with a group of his peers similar in age. He is a former choirmaster and head boy in his school, and hereby therefore he has experience in leadership and control. His current physical health status is concluded as decent, considering the circumstances. Merridew's hobbies on the island included hunting and killing pigs, and singing/chanting. While marooned, Jack let the possibility of being rescued slip his mind, and instead focused his goals on surviving, hunting, and doing whatever they wanted.
Jack has always been a natural-born leader, in the beginning, he was in control of the hunters and thought he would be elected chief. But since Ralph had the conch he didn’t become chief so ever since then Jack has tried to do things that a chief would do he wasn’t allowed because he wasn’t the chief. For example, “Jack stood up, scowling in gloom and held out his hands… But you’ve talked and talked… Jack sat down grumbling”(Golding 81-82).
Most kids see independence as an opportunity for fun and play, but little do they know, with independence comes lonesomeness and fear that can only be confronted by maturity. In the novel The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a group of boys survive a plane crash and are deserted on an abandoned island. The boys cannot agree with each other, so they form opposing groups and dive into chaos. Their lack of maturity combined with forced leadership roles, results in child-like attempts to govern and save themselves. The literal beast and Ralph are to blame for the demise of the island.
In The Lord of The Flies, the island starts out with a sensible leader whose sole goal was to save the boys from getting stranded on the island. It soon changes into a chaotic, unorganized place because of Jack Merridew. His leadership consisted of brutality and provoking fear into the other boys. This may or may not have helped cause the deaths of two boys on the island. It is possible that Jack helped cause the deaths of Piggy and Simon, but in no way is it true that he is the sole cause of their murder, as it is obvious who is.
Although sharing the same self-serving intent, Jack Merridew acts in his own, distinct way. Though he has not gone completely without opposition on the island, a clearer divide between his tribe and Ralph's remaining followers starts to form. In order to seize total control, he decides to make an example out of Piggy. Like Assef, he uses fear to control the people. However, unlike Assef, Jack rationalizes the murder as simply a way to show off his power.
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, over a dozen boys are stranded on an island with no adults and to fend for themselves. One individual in Jack Merridew, a boy who is turned cruel and ruthless, is being charged with 1st degree murder for the deaths of two boys, Piggy and Simon. First degree murder is characterized as deaths that a person committed was the individual either plans and commits the murder conscience of their actions. Jack is guilty of first degree and should be charged with 1st murder degree murder because of his direct involvement in Simon’s death, his dictatorial of leadership leading to the other boys’ savage behavior, and his disregard for human life.
Jury’s Verdict Society must fight against those who rip society apart by breaking laws and acting unethically. Citizens must make the right decisions in order to maintain a healthy community for many years to come. As jury for the trial of Jack Merridew, we have concluded Jack Merridew to be guilty, for he is responsible for the deaths of Simon and Piggy. When deciding an accused person’s fate, there should be no bias involved, since members of the jury have to look at the case from multiple points of view. The factors that suggested Jack Merridew’s guilt include why he and his tribe had not used traps rather than spears, his attempt to murder Ralph, and how the leader should be the one responsible for a group's actions.
In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding the ultimate one responsible for the destruction of the island is Jack. In the novel Golding has wrote about how a group of british boys crashed on a plane and landed on a island where there are no adults,just little british boys stranded on a island .In the beginning one of the boys Ralph was the responsible leader where he knew what to do an how to manage. But of course there was this one cureles jealous boy that wanted to be a leader,the one in charge. Because of how ruthless and savage Jack was he took the fear that the boys had within them and used it against them to make them join his tribe which started the destruction of the island.
In the Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there are many reasons and different opinions as to who or what caused the demise of the Island, but there are two standouts in my opinion and those are Jack and Ralph. Ralph is partially responsible for the demise because of his poor leadership skills, as well as Jack because of his cruelty and brutality. Jack wasn’t able to control any of the boys at any point in the novel because he was unwilling to turn to violence in order to lead the boys. However, Jack was quite the opposite; he was used to getting his way and when he wasn’t appointed leader of the group that sparked a fire in him as well as him eventually using verbal and physical violence and abuse. Every child comes into this world as a selfish, manipulative, cruel and stubborn being. It is the parents and society that teaches children how to function in a civilized world, and societal laws that keeps them under control. William Golding wrote this novel in the early years of the cold war and the atomic age. In William Golding's classic novel Lord of the Flies, Golding uses Jack, a young savage who looks to lead a group of stranded kids on an island with no food, no rules, and no adults. The effect freedom has on Jack has turned him into a savage because he does not have to listen to anyone since there are no adults on the island.

Chauffard may be little in size, and impoverished, yet it is so rich in generosity and love. It is evident the villagers, having weathered tremendous adversity, are desperate to rise above. Loaded into the back of a pickup truck and piled onto supplies, myself and seventeen of my fellow travelers hung on to short hand railings while we maneuvered four hours up a very narrow, steep, rocky dirt path.
