Records indicate that there was a total of five victims from the Jack the Ripper murders but rumored to be close to two dozen. The five official victims Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. Each of these women were killed in the early hours of the morning, dismembered, and found in the street. Nichols was the first of several murders that would be perpetrated by the man that would be known as the infamous Jack the Ripper. Her body was discovered on Friday, August 31st, 1888 around 4:00am on Durward St, Whitechapel. According to the report, her throat had been severed by two massive cuts, and the lower part of her abdomen was partly ripped open by a very jagged knife. Similar to the marks made on Many Ann Nichols, Chapman had two slash marks to the throat and her abdomen was completely ripped open. The scene was immensely overwhelming for the police, not many of them could stomach the depravity they had witnessed. It was later discovered Chapman’s uterus had been removed, which added to the severity of what this case was going to turn into. A witness came forward stating that he had seen Chapman around 5:30 that same morning, walking with a dark haired man with a very shabby outward appearance.
