Jackie Robinson “Safe!” That's the sound of the ump at home. Jackie Robinson, the first black man to play in the MLB, has just scored. Many people might disagree with me, but I think that Jackie Robinson is a hero to all black people and most white. Jackie Robinson has done many great things, one of them was that he stood up to white people and played in the MLB like he did not care what white people thought of him. “In 1947 the famous Jackie Roosevelt Robinson became the first African American to play on a Major League Baseball team. The road he paved was an important, but a difficult one.” Many people disagreed with Jackie being in the league. “Some players were physically violent - he once received a 7-inch gash in his leg from an opponent who spiked him with his cleats - while others hurled verbal racial insults at him and his teammates.” This shows that people …show more content…
Although he was the only black man on the team, Jackie’s fellow teammates grew to accept him as a part of their team. Other teams showed racism toward Jackie, but his teammates were true teammates. The text says, “The racism from other teams only united the Dodgers, however, and the team grew more accepting of him.” When other teams were racist toward Jackie, his own teammate defended him, making the team that much stronger. Not only was Jackie Robinson an African American in the MLB, he was also a great baseball player. Jackie Robinson had many successful years playing baseball. The text says, “Robinson won Rookie of the Year in 1947. He started at second base for the National League in the 1949 All-Star game, and he helped the Dodgers win the 1949 National League pennant. Over the next several years his success grew, and by 1955 the Dodgers pulled out a win in the World Series.” That is not only a great accomplishment for black people, it is an accomplishment for
