Bam, Wack, that was the sound of Jackie Robinson making history. Jackie Robinson went down in history as being the first African American to join major-league baseball. Robinson was a hero because he inspired African Americans to join major-league baseball and to bring white people and African Americans together and play sports. Jackie’s guts to do something that people said he couldn't do because of his race, led to other African Americans to try out for baseball. The article states, “In later seasons, more African- Americans joined other teams in the Major Leagues, as Robinson continued to excel.” This evidence helps the reader understand that Jackie was a hero to African Americans. He set a example for other African Americans to not be afraid to try out for something that someone says you can't do. Even when Jackie was younger, he stood up for racism. His style of the way he played made many teams change their way of playing. Some evidence to support this is, “For example, he inspired players to be more aggressive in their base-running, rather than relying only on the distance they could hit the ball.” The evidence is telling us that he had a unique way of playing ball which other people recognized and started playing like him. People wanted to be him and to play just like him. Jackie Robinson was known for having the guts to not fight back at baseball games and just in general. That was not always the case, Jackie did get in fights. Jackie got in fights with white men who were calling him names at the baseball games. He got in fights with mostly other baseball players. Even though that happened, Jackie still did not fight back at most of the games and kept himself under control. It would be very hard for someone to keep calm when everyone neglected him and did not like
