James Cook

Have you ever heard of James Cook? James Cook was born November 17,1728. He explored land for Britain discovering Australia and Hawaii. James Cook lived during a period of major events achieving great accomplishments although a controversial figure in his time.

James Cook is known for receiving the Copley Gold Medal of the Royal Society. He was given this award after he found a way to stop sea sickness. He thought of the idea to feed his crew well throughout the whole trip. The idea led his crew to being healthy throughout the excursion. Except for one member who did die of disease during the trip.This number however, was less than the amounts of previous trips. Still, James Cook was a good person. Some would say his death could have been prevented. Cook was stopped on land owned by Native Americans. He was looking for supplies to make it back to Europe. He got caught in a skirmish with the natives which led to his death. Historians believe his death was caused because he kidnapped their leader, or chief. In the present it is illegal to capture a president or leader, however then it was not. Meaning this was one of the one times that his actions would be considered bad. Looking on the other side James Cook discovered islands that were mostly uninhabited. He mapped most of the ocean too. Except for the northern part of the ocean. Also, one of his biggest influences would be solving the problem of sea sickness. He learned how to stop sea sickness by feeding his crew well. Cook was considered to be good because of discoveries he made while on the ocean. On his first voyage over 30 of his crew members died. Bringing him to start feeding his crew member healthier and keeping his ship clean. This led to only one member out of 50 dying. Also James kept great control of his crew because he was a good captain. His crew always obeyed him and because of this he treated his crew nicely. Also, he fed his crew well. Better than most captains. He kept them clean, so they could survive the journey. James cook was an outstanding person because of how he treated his crew and based on the discoveries he made in his lifetime that benefited the human
