According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary the definition of robbery is, larceny from the person or presence of another by violence or threat. Robbery is one of the highest forms of federal jurisdiction and each year 5000 bank robberies are executed in the United States alone (fbi.gov). On February 13, 1866, the first daylight bank robbery was committed in the US. This offense was carried out by the infamous James-Younger Gang. The group’s “claim - to - fame” was in fact this theft they committed the morning of the 13. As they were becoming well known throughout Missouri, these men committed multiple bank robberies and then began to rob trains. This event was one of the turning points in history and leads to our usage and technological advancements in security and surveillance systems. The James-Younger gang was a criminal group who carried out crimes as a form of support and entertainment and whose actions lead to more video surveillance.

The James-Younger Gang didn’t get their “official name” until 1868 by the authorities involved with the robbery of the Nimrod bank in Russellville, Kentucky. However these men knew each other a while before this incident. Both belonged to families who owned slaves in the south and therefore grew up on farms.
