In our modern society, it’s commonly known that democracy must be built through an open society that share information as matter of a fact that when there is share of information there is enlightenment. When there is a debate, there are solutions, when there is no sharing of power, no rule of law, no accountability; there is abuse, corruption, subjugation and indignation. Therefore, the role of politics is definitely important for humans in our contemporary society to resolve many issues. Not only that , but politics has the ability to encourage communication and acceptance among citizens as well as the ability to influence the daily lives of citizens from all socioeconomic backgrounds, race and ethnic origins. In the book the author stated that “Political is bad for us, and most of us should, for the sake of our characters, minimize out involvement”. Particularly, the author means in this statement that politics is bad for people because of its consequences. First it democratic deliberation tends to make people worse and we should just cut it out of our lives for the sake of our characters. Secondly the author encourages his readers to protect themselves from politics; because politics in general has lots of influences where by the individuals are encouraged to develop irrational behaviors. Therefore, it simply minimizes citizen’s involvement with society. More specifically, in the book titled Against Democracy the author Brennan divides people into three categories based on political temperament. The first category is the “hobbits” people who tend to not have strong political opinions or interest, the second category is “hooligans” people who have intensely partisan views, but their points are discouraged or not taken in account from those who disagree with them and last “Vulcans” are rational people, with well-informed opinions that shift according to new information and fresh insight. However, he argues that the main issue with democracy that it incentivizes us to be hooligans. By their very nature, political people are crass, partisan, and irrational not fit to be rulers. Besides that, the author Brennan claims to those who advocate for deliberative democracy because it creates enlightened political subjects that a new system of government such as aristocracy “the rule of the knowledgeable” may be better than democracy, and that it's time to experiment and find out.
