I attended two events in the Student Service building with two potential chancellor candidates. The potential candidates demonstrate different leadership style through their discussion and engagement with the student body. Dr. Jeff Elwell mentioned that he was prepared to treat people the he was taught and raise the awareness of diversity issue within the university. Dr. Elwell highlighted that he believed diversity within the university is vital, in addition to him being equipped with the experience and knowledge of ways of improvement. Dr. Elwell attributes and approach aligns with the authentic leadership style. He mentioned numerous time about being honest and genuine toward to student body as well as the faculty on the campus. He mentioned that his approach comprised of being proactive and reacting accordingly to the issue on campus, in hopes of gaining everyone trust. His process consisted of supporting positive change on the campus, evaluate this change over time, then find the best way to motivate students. He highlighted seeing racism and gender issue first hand, and his mission was to improve this issue within the university. He mentioned that the university need to be re-shaped, in addition to the preparation of having to make difficult decision for the improvement of the university.
