Have you ever wondered what the different political parties were like when our country was founded? The two parties were not nearly the same as our Republican and Democratic parties today. The two parties back then were the Federalists and the Democrat-Republicans. The Federalist party was founded by Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 or 1757 (the exact year was unknown) in the British West Indies. He arrived in the colonies as a teenager in 1772. In 1773, Hamilton enrolled in King’s College. During his second year of college, he was writing revolutionary essays, speaking publicly and became a captain of the artillery. In 1777 he became a part of George Washington’s staff up until 1781. He married Elizabeth Schuyler in 1780. Hamilton was the first Secretary of the Treasury. He was also responsible for creating the First Bank of the United States. Hamilton’s perspective of people was persuaded by his war experiences. He viewed people as selfish because he thought that they put themselves before their country. Most of the Federalists felt the same about people. He believed that the country should be ruled by the wealthy, well-educated and public spirited men. Jefferson was born on April thirteenth, 1743 in Virginia. He was born into a wealthy and well respected family. Jefferson lived on a plantation, and his father was a very successful planter and surveyor. Jefferson graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Jefferson would enjoy studying for hours, and playing the violin. He went on to study law under the tutelage of a very respected attorney. In 1767, Jefferson became an attorney.When Jefferson’s father died while he was a teen, he inherited his father’s plantation. On January first, 1772 Jefferson married Martha Wayles
