Jenna Fox is the main character of the book. She was in a car accident and survived because of her father’s creation: BioGel. Jenna’s mother, Claire, tries to keep Jenna in a bubble, thinking she will be safer there. Claire eventually learns that she can’t protect Jenna forever, and that Jenna isn’t who she used to be. Jenna’s father is much like Jenna herself. He keeps her calm and gets straight to the point. Her father is important because of that. Jenna falls in love with a boy named Ethan. Ethan helps Jenna and becomes one of the most important people in her life. Allys is Jenna’s best friend.She, also, dies and gets a new body made of BioGel. Allys is Jenna’s last peer. They like to live in birdhouses made by humans. If you hold your hand out, with seed in it, sparrows who feel comfortable around you may eat from your hand. Jenna meets a neighbor who ends up being her dad’s best friend. His job is to arrange and take pictures of nature. He shows Jenna how he can hold seed in his hand and how the sparrows come to him. It shows trust, from the bird and human. Jenna needs that trust and gets it from her father’s best friend. Love makes us insane. Anyone who has experienced love knows this.If you really love someone, you would do anything for them. Loves makes us insane because we find new strengths and weaknesses with it. Love can make you proud like a parent, goofy like a child, or feeling like the the world is the worst place imaginable. Love makes us insane because it is when we realize we love someone, that we start to see the world in a different light. It’s when we realize that we would do anything for them and not care about the consequences. Loyalty keeps us sane. If love makes us insane than loyalty keeps us sane.It is the yin to love’s yang.
