The Adoration Of Jenna Fox, written by Mary E Pearson, is about Jenna Fox, an important character that has developed the idea to make important decisions in her life. Jenna, a teenager who has just woken up from a coma that was caused from a very tragic accident, and later finds out that she is a girl that has a body made up of 90% of Bio Gel. Jenna’s parents have set a mission for their daughter to live a normal life by attempting to regain her memory by giving her tapes to watch about her childhood and a dictionary to read. Jenna eventually steps outside her boundaries, to explore the outside world. She makes this choice because she thinks that she has the power to be able to do anything she wants, or anything that she thinks is right in her opinion, even when her parents have set the boundaries around her. This is because she realises that her very own parents have not made the best decisions for their own daughter, which caused Jenna to also confront their actions that have been done, such as what she is made of, how she isn’t able to live a normal life, and so on. Another reason that she does this is that she doesn’t want her friends to end up like her, she knows what it is like to be someone who is made up of 90% Bio Gel, and she doesn’t want her friend to meet the same fate as she did. Evidence of this can be provided when Jenna locked her parents in a room before she destroyed the backups, “ Jenna ! What are you doing ? Let us out !”… “ Go, Lily says, hurry “. This shows that Jenna made the decision to lock her parents in a room in order to get the space and time to destroy her friends' backups, with the help of Lilly, her grandmother, she manages to achieve the mission to destroy the backups. After understanding what is going on, the author wanted us to understand that Jenna can make her own choices without her parents holding her down, meaning that she has gained freedom for her life. After I was able to understand the author’s purpose, I am not able to relate to Jenna’s current situation since I still need assist when making decisions, especially if I had to make a desperate decision to destroy my friends backups or not, but I am able to understand how stressed Jenna may be feeling when making this decision to destroy the
