Have you ever picked up a book and set it right back down after reading a few pages because it was so boring? Well, I’ve got the solution for you. This duology is a great young adult read that was impossible to put down. Both the prequel and sequel a family of liars and we were liars take place when the main character is a teenager. Both books showcase the lives of a mother and daughter, while dealing with addiction, grief, and mental and physical health struggles. I would recommend this book to anyone who is bored with the books, they have read so far, this series is riveting, tragic and haunting.

To start both of these books have a plot so addicting it was hard to set the book down while I was reading it. In the prequel family of liars by E.Lockhart, the lead character Carrie Sinclair’s perspective is focused on, her summer starts off somewhat normal after the previous summer when her younger sister Rosemary passed away after an unsupervised swim. Well, Carrie is dealing with grief her younger sister comes back and visits her as a ghost, she also finds herself having problems with addiction after she steals her dad’s sleeping medication. This book starts off with the recovery of teen girl cadence after a traumatic brain injury, causing her to develop amnesia throughout the book she slowly starts to remember what had happened the summer of her accident, and finally towards the end of the book realizes the full truth of what had happened to her and her friends during summer 16. this encapsulates the tragic realization of a ruined summer for cadence Sinclair, and lies that will follow her
