What is being loyal to someone, how can it be seen? Why is it that when one is betrayed, that is all that they think about night and day? The truth is loyalty cannot be seen but only felt between people who have faith within one another. As for betrayal, it can affect one so severely that it cannot leave their mind, especially if a loved one has caused it. In “Choices” by Susan Kerslake and “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, the authors suggest that a person can change based solely on their needs, and question their ability to stay loyal or betray.
Devotion. Devotion is one word that can take many forms. People can be devoted to many different things: friends, family, work, and past times. What does it mean to be devoted? Being devoted is defined as love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.

ESSAY Many times I’ve thought about what’s important in a friendship, what lays the groundwork of a friendship? , what really keeps a friendship proceed for a long time?. I decided that Loyalty is a significant quality in a friendship because without it everything else will suffer in a friendship. Loyalty holds a friendship together, it grows the friendship and makes it stronger.
One example on loyalty is from Inigo’s backstory when his father was killed. “I, Inigo Montoya do challenge you, coward, pig, killer, ass, fool to a battle”(page 132) After Domingo died, Inigo tried to fight the six fingered man, and even though he is only 10 years old and so smol, he does not hesitate to fight this man because he loved his father in their own weird way. This is important because from the very beginning it sets up Inigo's main plot line for the rest of the story, his purpose is essentially to train and then find and beat this man. Another example is from Fezziks backstory and helps to begin his plot line. Fezzik was a wrestler and he didn't want to but his parents believed it was best for him and the family.

In the family setting especially, loyalty stands as a fundamental element of healthy relationships. Trust grows from security in steadfast loyalty, resulting in obedience from children, even when the parents’ motives are not understood.
In The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson there are many situations that involve the ineffectiveness and effectiveness of loyalty. Between Jekyll, Utterson, Hyde, and Lanyon the use of loyalty is ineffective, because it led to multiple deaths. Throughout the progression of the novel, loyalty was ineffective because Jekyll could have told Lanyon – his best friend – all of his struggles with Hyde. Lanyon and Jekyll were friends ever since grade school, so Jekyll should know he could have trusted Lanyon with the dark secrets he was facing.

A loyal friend is a person that will always have your back when it comes defending you and making sure you are alright. Loyalty in a friend is very important because without loyalty in a friendship, one friend can go and talk behind your back to another friend when you think your friend is loyal but they are not and are talking behind your back. Loyalty is also a trait that needs to be gained and cannot just be given to a person; it requires time for someone to be loyal to another person.
