Hello Prof. Manock and Fellow Classmates, In regards to Jenn’s story about her brother Matt, one could feel the raw emotion within the letter she wrote Jim. Namely, the impact of addiction upon Matt’s life was the fact that he becomes consumed with alcohol early on in his life, continuing during periods in his adult life. As one starts off using one substance some people often experiment with other forms of drug abuse. In this story, Matt goes on to abuse OxyContin as well as alcohol, this behavior is defined as addiction wherein; one has depended on a substance to function daily functions (Henslin, 2015, p. 83). The impact of any addiction on the individual that is using can go from not being able to carry out daily tasks without usage, depression, guilt, shame, all in which, can be overwhelming and can cause the user to use more in order to not, to feel or face reality (Henslin, 2015). …show more content…

Family members begin to second guess their love one. Trust is often lost and lack of communication bring about chaos due to not being to understand what each other are going through. Everyone as well as, the community that one interact with is affected by a drug user. As a drug or alcoholic progress in their usages so does their behavior, one has mood swings, disrupted behaviors, job loss followed by broken promises to love ones and themselves (Henslin, 2015). The is also affected community by crime, scenery (finding someone passed out on sidewalks) not to mention drug programs that tax payers pay
