When you think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you think of Iron Man, Captain America, and the test of the Avengers gang, but you hear the name Jessica Jones and scratch your head. To be honest, I had no idea who the character was when I first hear about the series coming out on Netflix. I had just started watching Daredevil when I heard that the show would be part of 3 other shows that would culminate in a mini-series event called The Defenders. What I knew after watching Daredevil was that this part of the MCU will be a lot darker. Where the movies are a bit lighter, the small screen versions on Netflix weren 't going to be that way. So who is Jessica Jones? The origins of Jessica Jones starts off that she became an orphan after she and her parents got in a car accident. During the car accident, a chemical spilled onto her giving her the powers she has now -- looks like the chemical part was changed in the Netflix series. Her powers are basically that she has super strength, she can fly, and she 's pretty damn tough, but not bulletproof. What really changed the game for Jessica Jones was when the Marvel MAX Alias (2001-2004) series began. It circled around Jessica Jones and her private detective agency called Alias. The MAX series was based in realism and was really dark. This is what the series is basing its tone and story after. Jones is an alcoholic that is dealing with helping super heroes and other people in solving crimes. But when Alias really gets dark is when she faces off against the villain Purple Man/Kilgrave. He has the power of mind control/controlling your will. In the comic, she goes against him in one of her investigations. In the series, she had already met him and is part of the long arc of the show that deals with her PTSD from her experiences and ultimately is responsible for her alcoholism and generally negative and bratty
