Jewish Chosenness

476 Words2 Pages
In Judaism, "chosenness" is the belief that the Jewish people were singularly chosen to enter into a covenant with God. This idea is central to the history of the Jewish people and is deeply rooted in Judaism. “The doctrine of the election of Israel implies that the relationship between God and Israel is essentially Historical, It is an ongoing temporal process initiated by a free act of the creator God.” (Frank, p. 12) The Jews hold that being the "Chosen People" means that they have been placed on earth to fulfill a purpose. Evidence is found in Deuteronomy 14:2 where it says: "for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.”
