“Conquering the Freshman Fear of Failure” an article written by David L Kirp is a piece that illustrates the link between fear and doing bad in school. David Kirp writes about the psychological result of giving students an environment where they will set themselves up for failure. He tries to promote the scientific study where it mentions that intellect and genetics have very little correlation. Kirp believes when you put students in a discouraging environment and plant failure in their minds, nothing can be achieved. He grabs his audience’s attention by channelling into their sympathy and bringing credibility to his argument.

Rhetorical Analysis of Mike Rose Emotional, ethical, and logical appeals are all methods used in writing to perused you one way or another on various topics. Mike Rose used all of these techniques in this essay, to show how student who are pushed aside, distracted, or fall behind and fail. In this essay Rose describes that students who have teachers who are unprepared, or incompetent majorly contribute to student failure. After playing in the St. Joseph’s basketball team for several years, as well as receiving multiple scholarships to continue his education without any worry of the cost, William faced a knee injury during his junior year that severely damaged his reputation in the school, as he was no longer able to play for a large portion of the basketball season. This was a damaging blow to his basketball career, as William was forced to miss a number of important games that put both him and his school behind in the state rankings. As if this wasn’t enough, William also struggled outside of the basketball court, having difficulties with getting the minimum ACT score of 18 required for a scholarship at Marquette University. William refused to give up, however, taking and retaking the exam as well as utilizing help from tutors. After more than five failed attempts, he managed to score a 17.5 on the exam, which was rounded up to an 18, barely earning him the scholarship in time.
When he was able to return to school, he had trouble keeping up with the other student and would often receive failing or low grades. He had only achieved a third-grade reading level at the age of 16. He had a rough time in the school environment and was a victim of harsh bullying during his adolescent
Deciding to attend Texas A&M University was both a hardship and immense, opportunity in my life. Coming from a close knit background, and possessing a very family oriented character, my decision to come to this incredible institution was one out of my comfort zone. If I was to be asked one year ago, If I could ever see myself standing on this marvelous campus, attending one of the top schools in the nation, I would have honestly responded, no. My counselors would have said no, my friends, my college advisor, my family. The answer would not have been yes, not because I wasn 't capable of meeting the standards to attend, but because there seemed more obstacles in my way than there was forces pushing me forward.

In Carl Singleton’s article, “What Our Education System Needs is More F’s,” he argues that students aren’t receiving the failing grades they deserve. School systems are to blame for the lack of quality in America’s education. No other recommendation for improvement will succeed. The only way to fix the American education system is to fail more students. According to Singleton, the real root of the issue is with the parents.

If a student were to fail a course or grade level, said student should be made to retake the course or grade level with extra help and guidance. If a student is thought to be at risk for low self-esteem caused by retention, they should be given the option of academic or social counseling. Pushing a child forward when they’re unprepared is unacceptable. Social promotion is causing a bigger issue than retention.
Now they have to get a minimum wage paying job and live off of that until they can get into a different school or at least a better paying job. If they live in a strict family than the family will probably be disappointed and not help their child with their financial problems. Now that student is living in a crummy apartment o the worst side of town with a minimum wage paying job all because they cheated. Students cheat because they are scared to fail.
