When Jim is preparing for the trip he is told to go see Captain Silver who will he will end up very close to. He is very scared to find him because he is told that he has one leg and meets exactly what the seafaring man at the inn tells him to watch out for ‘a seafaring man with one leg’. He quickly learned not to judge people by thier cover. “He was very tall and strong, with a face as big as a ham-plain and pale, but intelligent and smiling. Indeed, he seemed in the most cheerful spirits, whistling as he moved about among the tables, with a merry word or a slap on the shoulder for the more favored of his guests.” (42; ch. 8). He learns that no matter how big and scary someone looks they could still be really nice. The crew helps to teach him to come when he is needed because if he doesn’t he is going to cause something to happen to who called him. “‘Jim, Jim!’ I heard him shouting. His mom, dad, and friends help change him in many ways, they change his feelings, how how he thinks, and how he acts. His dad changes his feelings and makes him emotional. Not seeing his mom changes how he thinks by making him more independent. Lastly his friends or shipmates whip him into shape and change how he acts by making him more
