In the story the main character is Tom Sawyer, Tom is a boy around the age of twelve at the beginning of the story. The character of Long John Silver is constructed deliberately from ambiguity in the very beginning of the story, when Billy Bones pays Jim Hawkins to keep a “weather-eye open for a seafaring man with one leg” (Stevenson 3). This elusive attitude of wariness continues throughout. Silver becomes something more than himself: it is remarked that all were afraid of Captain Flint, but even Flint was afraid of Silver. Thus he is distinguished in the reader’s mind as distinct from the other pirates-- more intelligent, less base, more admirable, less vile. The distinction from other pirates and the enigma produce in readers a sort of admiration and allows for a construction of who the real Silver might be.
The protagonist in this story is Jim Hawkins, who is twelve or thirteen years old. On the beginning, he lives with his parents in a inn. He can be very courageous, like when he was gone back to the ship, when they were in Treasure Island. [quote: chapter 27, Pieces of Eight, page 250]: “I went below and did what I could for my wound; it pained me a good deal and still bled freely, but it was neither deep nor dangerous, nor did it greatly gall me when I used my arm. Then I looked around me, and as the ship was now, in a sense, my own, I began to think of clearing it from its last passenger—the dead man, O’Brien.

What Does It Mean to Belong? The novel "Monkey Beach" by Eden Robinson is a powerful exploration of the human experience, focusing on exploring the idea of belonging and how to find your identity and culture when faced with loss and trauma. The story is centered around the life of a young Indigenous woman, Lisamarie Hill, who struggles to come to terms with the disappearance of her brother, Jimmy, and the effect it has on her community. Through her journey, the novel goes into the complexities of the human brain and how we try to find our identity and place in the world.
One of the people Twain doesn’t admire is The King because he portrays him as a river con man who claims to be a dissapeared heir to the French Throne who also takes control of Huck and Jim’s raft. Pap would be another character who is not admirable because he treated his son worse than a slave owner treated a slave. The Duke is also portrayed as a bad man because he is The King’s side-kick who is also a con man. The Shepherdsons were also a group of unadmirable people because they shot Buck Grangerford along with his family. Mrs. Loftus is a little bit unadmirable because she didn’t let Huck have any of her food or things that he was in need of.

The Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal. That is, unless you are a slave like Jim. Jim, the slave from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain, is a very important character. He becomes not only a good friend to the main character, Huck, but also something of a father figure to him. Jim and Huck tend to get themselves into tricky situations, but they always find a way to work through the hard times together.
The hero in “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” is Jim. Jim is a strong character who risks his life in order to become free from slavery. Nevertheless, Jim continues to risks his life in order to save Huckleberry from various situations. There are many illustrations of this phenomenon within “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. Jim’s bravery, loyalty, and strength portrays leadership characteristics, which reciprocates my definition of a true American hero.

The topic of my paper will be how Stevenson uses heroism throughout Treasure Island to convey to audience the growth of Jim Hawkins from the beginning of the novel to the end. The major theme of heroism in the novel highlights how adolescents can go on a ‘soul searching trip’ which can put a realistic aspect to life into their point of view, and thus highlight the mindsets of many adults, who years of wisdom. Stevenson emphasizes this change in Jim Hawkins by using many literary devices, such as first-person point of view and imagery. The story being told from Jim Hawkins point of view allows the audience to understand his mindset in the beginning of the novel by his beliefs of Treasure Island being quite unrealistic to by the end of the
