Who was Joan of Arc? She was an illiterate peasant girl born around 1412, in a town called Domremy, which was in eastern France. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a pious Christian. During the Hundred Years’ War, England had invaded northeastern France, causing for Joan to flee from her village. Eventually, Joan approached the French prince and persuaded him to allow her to lead his army in a battle. She did exactly this, and rallied the French to victory in the Battle of Orleans. Even after the French victory at the Battle of Orleans in 1429, she continued on and won many other battles, gaining land back from the English. Joan of Arc became a heroin and unbelievably turned the tide of a seemingly endless war. However, in the spring of 1430, she was captured by the English, tried by the Inquisition, and eventually burned at the stake.
