Joan of Arc, witch or saint, hero or heretic? “Of the love or hatred God has for the English, I know nothing, but I do know that they will all be thrown out France, except those who are there.” This is a famous quote that Joan of Arc said dealing with the hated English who had at that time invaded France. Joan’s real name was Jeanne d’Arc but she is known today as Saint Joan or the Maid of Orleans. She was but merely a peasant with visions telling her to be so much more. I plan on telling the magnificent but short life of the grandiose Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Domremy, France. France was in full-swing during the Hundred Year War. Joan’s mother made her grow up a devout Catholic. When she was the juvenile age of twelve she had her first inspiring vision of saving France. The voice constantly reminded her that she needed to go to church, it would tell her that if she did she would have divine powers helping her with France’s war. She was then put in jail to await her trials. She was given two separate trails to come up with her verdict. The trials were the Interrogation Trail of 1431 this culminated her burning at the stake, and the other trail was the Rehabilitation Trail of 1455-1456 that tried to reestablish her reputation. The English paid to have it come out in their favor and have her sentenced to death. She was tried for heresy and for dressing in men clothing. The English also believed that she was a witch and that it was the Devil’s voice she heard and the Devil she saw in her visions. They had her burned at the stake shortly after her trails. Many said that the English burned an angel. In 1920 the Roman Catholic Church redeemed her status. They made her a saint and to this day she is still considered a French
