Jodi Picoult is an American writer , that lived in a place where equality was lacking , leading her to become an activist for most of her life , to obtain equality for all.
Jodi Picoult grew up seeing equality for men and women , almost nonexistent. She also saw many cases of racism. This impacted her in many of her literary works , which influenced her writing style . With all that Jodi Picoult is seeing around her she decided to join a group called VIDA: Women in literary Arts , which is a non profit organization focusing on the lack of gender parity in the literary point of view , and to help writers of color , or people who define themselves as gay , lesbian , trans , or even queer, also people with disabilities , be heard . Which then lead to a sticky note being placed on the bed of the baby saying African American personal cant handle this baby , Thus leading the nurse that was handling the baby to sue the hospital. This case is an amazing example of how inequality and racism influenced her work and shaping what she writes about. Jodi Picoult may not experience those certain situations ,but can express what others feel , with a powerful impact that affect others in many ways. These awards mean alot to Jodi Picoult but she feels better about how she got them . Some of the Literary Works I feel are a little risky to write about and surprised the backlash isn't huge. Jodi Picoult still till this day is part of the VIDA program ,and continues to work on projects to better improve the community and its writers. As of 2018, VIDA launched a plan to create awareness in the literary work field to resolve the issues of sexual harassment, coercion, and assault . VIDA is planning to create guidelines and develop a way to address all of the issues that are given, one of many ways is literary events, writing programs, and getting help from other
