The presidency of John Adams The presidency of John Adams started when he was inaugurated, March 4 1797. Before John Adams become the second president of the United States of America he was a lawyer and he was the first Vice President. One of John’s most famous case was when he defended the British soldiers who were accused of the shooting of the Boston Massacre. He also served two terms of being Vice President under George Washington. Johns Adams has been a famous lawyer, the Vice President and he was the second president of the United States of America. He ended his presidency March 4,1801 where he was succeeded by Thomas Jefferson. John Adams was the first president who was in the Federalist Party, the party believed in independent thinking. The government also moved the capital from Philadelphia to Washington DC, so he was the first president to live in the White House. During his presidency there was a war between France and Great Britain going on. This was causing many problems for American merchants and intense partisanships around the world. His first year was America fighting in the Quasi- War. The Quasi- war was between United States of America and the French, it last from 1798 to 1800. This war was mainly because America didn't want to continue paying off their debt to France on land that they already own. This caused the French to get furious and so they retaliated by attacking American ships. Adams decided to fight back which later on they both calmed down and had the Treaty of Mortefontaine. This treaty ended all the fights in the Caribbean and also ended our relationship with the French American alliance.
