In the essay, “Why Shouldn’t Tommy and Jim Have Sex?” by John Corvino, he protects and fights for the right of homosexuals to engage in sexual activity. Also, he criticizes the arguments that are against homosexual sex and marriage. Corvino takes his time addressing each argument and provides evidence to back up his statements. Corvino’s opening statement is about Tommy and Jim being a homosexual couple. He continues by talking about their careers, age, how long they have been together and challenges they faced. There are two position on this: if you were born homosexual, therefore it is natural and moral. If you choose to be homosexual as a lifestyle choice, then it is unnatural and immoral. I have never in my life seen such a hypocritical statement. Corvino, goes on to show how false the argument is. It is beside the point whether the desires of homosexuals are innate or not. For centuries people have acted upon their desires and some of those desires should not be acted upon like violence and violence, is immoral. This just proves how invalid the reasoning is. Fourthly, violating an organs purpose is unnatural. The human body is used in different ways and certain parts of the body have multiple purposes even if it deviates from its normal uses. Using your body parts to express your love for someone, to give pleasure or even not being able to procreate shouldn’t not be frowned upon or considered immoral. And for the fifth point to his first argument, it is unnatural if it is disgusting. Just because you deem something disgusting does not mean it is wrong. There are many things disgusting in this world like, eating bugs and snails, even cleaning up vomit and no one considers it immoral or wrong, but homosexuality is disgusting.
