In John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech, he uses many rhetorical devices such as tone and diction in order to appeal to ethos. JFK, (John F Kennedy), establishes his ethos in order to convey his purpose of uniting America under his leadership and show commitment to ending tyranny and oppression. JFK establishes his ethos without delay in his speech. He uses words such as “We, fellow, and our” in order to form a common ground amongst the audience and the speaker thus establishing his ethos.
Compare and Contrast Essay Freedom, equality, and success are all similar but different views in life. In Patrick Henry's speech “Speech to the Virginia convention” he talked about how he believed people could achieve these beliefs. In a like manner so did John F Kennedy in his “inaugural speech”. Both JFK and Patrick Henry viewed freedom, equality, and success in very similar but different ways.
John F. Kennedy appeals to the audience by establishing himself as a respectable man, producing credibility. He demonstrates appreciation to “our soldiers and sailors” for protecting our freedoms and establishes a common ground that Kennedy and his audience are the Americans.

The public felt Kennedy, with his idealism and vigor, would be a good fit for Presidential leadership, and would be effective in reducing the many of America’s domestic problems. After failing to keep some of his campaign promises such as, expanding the welfare state, and health care programs, he acted, after much pressure from civil right activists and pushed Congress by calling for a comprehensive Civil Rights bill.
What does it mean to be a servant leader? Servant leaders are constantly focusing on the needs of others before their own. Servant leadership involves an individual demonstrating the characteristics of foresight, awareness, and commitment to personal growth toward others. Servant leaders act for the greater good, even when controversy has the possibility of rising. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks are excellent examples of this.

However,times are rapidly changing and the servant style of leadership is quickly becoming more acceptable and recognized throughout the industry. The field of EMS is unique, sometimes posing unconventional issues that must be addressed, in addition to those that occur on a daily basis. The servant style of leadership can become an effective and preferred method of leadership when applied in a balanced method. This style of leadership places the emphasis on nurturing the needs of the subordinate employees.
The basic principle of servant leadership is serving others and the community. The three principles of the servant-leadership are sharing the power, putting the needs of others first and helping people achieve their highest potential so that they may want to serve others. This creates an environment of trust, collaboration, teamwork and group improvement. Robert Greenleaf created the term, Servant Leader, and creating the idea of leading by serving with individuals and organizations. In one of his major essay’s, The Institution as Servant, Greenleaf (as cited in “What is Servant Leadership,” n.d.) expressed what was frequently called the “credo.”
The leader I chose was Martin Luther King. He fought for equal rights. The I have a dream Speech reaffirmed the commitment to non-violent resistance, standing one’s ground for one’s God-given rights, the basis for human dignity and strength for all, regardless of race, religion, or color. Martin Luther King displays charismatic leadership. Charismatic leadership has generally been defined in terms of the effects the leader has on followers, or in terms of the relationship between leaders and followers.
“For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life.” This quote from the 35th president of the United States set a precedent of greatness for our country. The man who set such a precedent was John F. Kennedy. A very persuasive and well-read man, when he gave his inaugural address, our nation and the world knew we were in good hands. JFK not only was well-read, he gave moving speeches.
Servant Leadership during Natural Disasters Servant leadership is a leader who displays ethical and caring behaviors. These leaders seek to enhance the growth of others while improving quality of life. The two main constructs of this leadership are ethical behavior and concern for subordinates. The characteristics embodied in this are stewardship, foresight, conceptualization, persuasion, building community, listening, empathy, awareness, commitment to growth of people and healing.
